By Sani Idris

The Commandant of the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) Maj.-Gen John Ochai, has on Friday, 31st of May 2024, led a delegation to the Nigerian Police Academy (POLAC), Wudil, Kano State to forge a relationship and establish key training benchmarks.

The NDA delegation included the DMT, CBC, DICT, Academy Adjutant, and Commading Officers of NDA ST Bn and Burna Battalion.

Others were the Mess Manager, ADC-Comdt, and Benchmarking Officer 2.

Newsmen reports that the visit, was aimed at exploring collaboration areas that could benefit the Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN) and Nigerian Police Force (NPF).

It was thus, deemed vital to explore joint training and academics collaboration, considering the military’s increasing role in internal security, traditionally the police’s domain.

Such collaboration, the NDA Commandant, envisaged, would build lasting relationships among future leaders of both the AFN and NPF.

Maj.-Gen. Ochai explained that, despite differing mandates, both institutions share common interests.

He gave example of the Exercise CAMP KURA, which entails internal security training, supported by the NPF and other security agencies.

Therefore, he envisioned that joint participation of NDA and POLAC cadets in such exercises would benefit cadets’ assimilation and relationship building, which could result in enhanced synergy between the AFN and NPF going forward.

Maj.-Gen. Ochai proposed cooperation through linkages and collaboration, joint seminars, exchange programs, and sporting/social activities.

Also, the Commandant of POLAC, AIG Sadiq, expressed gratitude for the visit, adding that it was the first since POLAC’s establishment in March 1998.

He noted the visit’s significance to POLAC’s development, especially in collaboration areas highlighted by Maj.-Gen. Ochai.

He acknowledged NDA’s help in establishing POLAC’s Engineering Department and called for further collaboration in equitation, postgraduate school establishment and cadet training.

The Commandant recommended appointing desk officers in both institutions to facilitate benchmarking efforts.

The visit, which featured
a tour round POLAC’s facilities, concluded with exchange of souvenirs from both institutions.
