Progressives Foundational Movement (PFM), a group of All Progressives Congress members, has faulted the claim by Ondo State governorship aspirant Jimoh Ibrahim that he paid N100 million to enable members of the party revalidate their membership in the state.
A statement by the group signed by the National Coordinator, Emmanuel Aderibigbe made available to newsmen in Akure, stated that the business mogul hoodwinked members of the party in the state by making the bogus claim to secure their votes in today’s governorship primary election.
The national leadership of the party had instructed all members in the state to pay their annual dues, due to the position of the party that only financial members would be allowed to vote during the primaries.
Speaking on why he made the payment, Ibrahim said, “I paid a sum of N100 million to the purse of our national secretariat as dues for some members of our party across the 18 local government areas of our state.
“It will prevent many of our members from being disenfranchised during the governorship primaries.”
The group, however, countered Mr Ibrahim saying upon its finding they found out that Mr Ibrahim only paid N30 million against the claim of paying N100 Million.
“We are not surprised by Jimoh Ibrahim’s claim because dishonesty has been his stock in trade over the years. After he made the claim we took time to investigate it and discovered that he paid far less than what he told the world.
“He only paid the sum of N30 million, we just want to draw the attention of Nigerians to this fact because Jimoh Ibrahim has misled citizens of Ondo, members of our party and Nigerians, which is sad,” the group said.
The group also stated that the aspirant should have been punished fir the claim and deliberate effort to cause confusion during the primary process.
