In a strong-worded message to mark this year’s International Women’s Day (IWD), Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko has urged Nigerian women on the democratic space to leverage on all electoral opportunities by crushing all barriers to their effective participation.
The lawmaker had, in his last year’s message to Nigerian women, urged them to always defend their votes in elections in order to deepen democracy.
He said the 2024 International Women’s Day should serve as “a golden opportunity for women in politics to sharpen their focus and evolve means of checking barriers to their contest for elective offices at the three-tier levels of governance.
Senator Wamakko who recently marked his 71st birthday feeding the poor and freeing detainees imprisoned for indebtedness, further stated that the democratic future of Nigerian women now has brighter chances because they seem to have the highest number of committed Nigerian voters during elections.
He also commended Nigerian women around the world, who have excelled in various professional fields of endeavour through hard work and dedication.
The lawmaker also hailed President Bola Tinubu’s gender-friendly appointments so far, saying the President’s strategy will bring women to the front burner of democratic governance.
