Arewa Youth Forum Condemns Fresh Petrol Price Increase

*Says palliatives management shouldn’t end up like past govts

A frontline group from the North, Arewa Youth Forum (AYF)
has advised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to ensure his palliatives aimed at cushioning the effect of fuel subsidy removal, reaches the right people, while condemning the increase in pump price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), popularly known as petrol.

AYF expressed this in a statement signed by its National President, Comrade Ahmed Mohammed Zagi, made available to newsmen in Kadunà on Tuesday July 18, 2023.

“We are becoming concerned with the controversy the planned palliatives of the Federal Government following petroleum subsidy removal is getting, only to receive a shock today, with the increase of price of petrol to over N600 .

” Already, several Nigerians have been badly hit by the subsidy removal. It would therefore, be a disservice to the nation if the proceeds fail to reach those that are worst hit, especially with the fresh increase in petrol pump price.

“The N8,000 monthly stipend to some families in the country, although a welcome development, is far inadequate and should be reviewed upwards, *especially looking at the skyrocketing cost of goods and services in the country occasioned by the recent twice increase in the cost of fuel*”.

“We would be disappointed, if the present policies, fail to yield the desired results, just like some of our past governments,” the group said.

The group stressed the need for urgent measures to be put in place to address the issue of food security in the country.

” We want the federal government to inspire states to prioritise agricultural revolution that would ensure enough food protection in the country.

“Such efforts would lead to the crashing of prices of food products through the natural law of demand and supply,” AYF advised.

They therefore, tasked President Tinubu and his advisers to think harder and come up with lasting solutions to the economic misfortunes of the country.

AYF however, advised Nigerians to be patient with the new administration, and seek ways they can positively contribute to moving Nigeria forward.

Signed

Ahmed Mohammed Zagi,
National President, Arewa Youth Forum
