8 teams across Yobe State took part in the exciting football tournament designed for young talents
Organisers of the just concluded 1st Edition of TY Buratai Football Championship held in Yobe have thumbed up the exemplary display of the youngsters that took part in the month-long competition.
President TY Burarai Football Academy and sponsor of the tournament , Engr Hassan Mohammed Sarkin Yakin Garkuwan Keffi said he was very delighted with the performance of the finalists at this year’s edition.
He also expressed his excitement with the high standard of play displayed by all the other teams that participated in the month-long youth football tournament in Damaturu .
According to him, the young boys need all the support they can get to hone their skills in the game as the future is bright ahead.
“There are different ways to make it in life. You either get to the top through education or through your talent. In our case, we are helping to build the talent of these boys in football and with what I saw here during the final match, I could see that we are doing the right thing because these boys are full of football talent and I could see them going places in the game,” Sarkin Yaki said.
He reiterated the plan of his mentor the former Chief of Army Staff His Excellency Amb (Lt Gen Rtd) Tukur Yusufu Buratai CFR, Garkuwan Keffi to partner with relevant Grassroots Soccer Associations to continue with the organisation of the youth football competition.
Meanwhile, after a rigorous journey to the final, the two finalists at the just concluded TY Buratai Football Competition lived up to expectations as the youth displayed soccer artistry to the delight of high profile dignitaries and fans at the August 27 Stadium Damaturu , Yobe State on Sunday.
The tough final duel between Young Stars FC and Pawari United ended in stalemate, but the spot-kicks favored the Young Star FC thanks to their goalkeeper, Sulaiman.
Sulaiman saved the only penalty to give his side the much-desired 7-6 victory to lift the gold trophy and the winning prize of Jessy, Footballs and Gold Medals to every member of the team, while Pawari United received the Second position trophy Jessy, football and Silver Medals to each and every member of the team .
Abduleazak Mohammed of TY Buratai Academy with his two goals in his kitty won the Highest Goal Scorer award out of the 13 goals scored during the competition, Sulaiman of Young Stars FC won the Best Goalkeeper award, while Hassan Gabriel of TY Buratai Academy won the Most Valuable Player (MVP).
